Impedance values for the contact condition for 260 μm electrode: 70.5 kΩ; 520 μm electrode: 52 kΩ. Open circles are experimental data points from the Argus I clinical trials [13]. The clinical data demonstrate large scattering of impedance but are grossly within the range of simulated values from our framework. A fitting of the experimental data is not completely relevant, but it would lead to an impedance-distance relationship that is not in contradiction with our simulations.
