Metabolic results. Metabolic cost decreased with increasing peak torque assistance for all subjects. In the Subject-Specific plots, the final day validation results are shown in a darker-colored line than the day-by-day results following optimization. In the Line of Best Fit plot, the relationship between peak torque and change in metabolic cost is well approximated by an exponential fit in the tested range of peak torque values. The decaying exponential model fit the data better than a constant model (ANOVA; p = 6e–14)
