Vacancy: Editor-in-Chief, Journal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation

The Journal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation is an open access journal that fosters scientific contributions at the intersection of neuroscience, biomedical engineering, and physical medicine and rehabilitation. The journal provides an international forum for researchers and clinicians interested in understanding the way neuroscience and biomedical engineering are continuing to reshape physical medicine and rehabilitation and human movement augmentation and offers the opportunity to introduce new methods and host a discussion of their clinical implications. Original primary research is published in the journal along with review articles, methodologies, brief reports, and commentaries.

Established in 2004, the journal is owned and published by BioMed Central, part of Springer Nature. Journal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation covers high-quality innovative work, focusing on research that has the potential of a great impact on physical medicine & rehabilitation, with 1.6M article downloads per year.

BioMed Central is seeking to appoint an Editor-in-Chief to succeed Professor David J Reinkensmeyer, who will be stepping down at the end of the year, after a term of 10 years with the journal.

The newly appointed Editor-in-Chief will have full editorial responsibility for the content published in the Journal and for ensuring that the ethos, editorial standards, policies and scope of Journal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation are maintained. They will also be responsible for providing strategic guidance and overseeing the commissioning of non-research content.

Ideal candidates will be:

-Researchers with broad experience across the fields of neuroscience, biomedical engineering, and physical medicine and rehabilitation who are able to demonstrate their impact in the field with an extensive publication history.

-Experienced as a journal Editor, with strong critical analysis and appraisal skills, and a good understanding of peer review and publication ethics.

-Keen supporters of open access publishing.

-Able to demonstrate strong leadership and manage an international Editorial board.

-Excellent strategic planners with the ability to develop a clear vision for the Journal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation.

-Interested in building strong community relationships with neuroscientists, biomedical engineers, and physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists at all levels.

-Keen to innovate and continuously develop Journal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation.

-Engaged with technology and willing to use the Journal’s online submission and peer review tools.

-Able to dedicate time on a regular basis to a thriving journal.

The Journal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation is currently supported by the Editorial Office run by the publisher for administrative services and is further supported by a committed team of two Deputy Editors. The position offers an honorarium, whilst the time commitment is flexible, we anticipate the post-holder would also have a full-time or part-time position elsewhere.
